Getting Prepped for NaNoWriMo 2019
I had skipped on doing the Municipal Liaison thing last year because of staffing issues at the library where I work, but this year I had to take it on because the lady who had taken over duties has moved away from the Lakeland region.
I do plan on finding times and places to have Write-Ins to host, and maybe this year I'll find the motivation to finish a work instead of letting the writer's block demon get the better of me.
Keep an eye out for further details!

NaNoWriMo 2017: Write-In at Starbucks
There will be a Write-In for Lakeland NaNo at the Lakeside Village mall location at:
Starbucks, 1314 Town Center Drive S-102, Lakeland, FL 33803
This will be facing Harden Blvd.
Starting at 4:30 or so, it's an open event so you can arrive when you can and leave when you need.
Hope everyone is getting their word counts and staying focused on their next novel of noteworthiness.

Looking at places for NaNo Write-Ins in Lakeland
There's been a suggestion for using the Starbucks at Lakeside Village (just off Harden Blvd). as a possible Write-In locale.
Checking it out now. The best thing is that the big tables in the middle of the bistro have power outlets underneath, meaning people can use laptops and tablets during the Write-Ins.
Now it's a question of figuring out the best evenings to host them.

Prepping for NaNoWriMo 2016
Okay, so National Novel Writing Month is officially every November, which is now NEXT MONTH.
That means a few things:
1) the NaNoWriMo website resets itself.
2) I need to submit a proposed book idea and proposed cover (optional, but fun to have).
3) The Lakeland FL Region will reset, which means I got to start managing the threads and the notes and the Calendar again!
4) I really need to come up with a good book idea this time.
Sigh.
For all the times I've NaNo'ed, I've yet to complete a "finished" work past the 50,000 word count. The remainders that follow in my wake are - upon re-evaluation - a bit messy even before the need for actual revisions to where I'm almost embarrassed by them.
I need to - NEED TO - come up with an idea I know I can follow up to its conclusion. I'd REALLY like to get one of these things honest-to-God done.
So, a quick poll to anybody willing to leave a comment. Should I write:
1) A fiction novel, focusing on the Talents superhero 'verse I've been working on?
2) A non-fiction novel of political ranting - which I kinda do anyway - during what will be the most anxiety-riddled election month in recent memory?
Please let me know what you think.
And get ready to NANO people! Word Sprints start in 27 days!

Prepping for NaNoWriMo 2015
It's a month away.
And as a Municipal Liaison, I have to get some things set up for November.
The good news: the NaNo organizers created a Lakeland Region to cover the growing Polk County population of writers. Now I need to get the word out to the writing groups that we can go with our own groups rather than farm out to Tampa/Brandon or Orlando.
(On a side note, I've seen they divided up Pinellas County into THREE SECTIONS. Given that it's our smallest physical county and yet one of our most densely populated, this is still a bit surprising)
I have to get the Google Calendar set up for the Region (done) and managed. I have some dates for Write-Ins already set with Lakeland, Bartow and Winter Haven: now I need to confirm some actual locations for Lake Wales to help cover the southeastern corner of Polk County.
And now I gotta think about which novel idea to follow through on.
I'm thinking either a new novel idea on:
1) An alternative history novel about the American Civil War where the South DOESN'T start it by firing on Fort Sumter so that they can secure French recognition... with the consequences playing out affecting the fates of Mexico, Virginia, and the border states.
2) That urban fantasy novel I tried starting this Labor Day (I can use NaNo to finish it).
I could bring back one of the earlier attempts, although I dread getting bogged down in the weeds where I keep getting lost on those works. Best to see about something fresh, IMHO. (although I keep thinking I can get something good out of Ocean Dancers...)
NANO ME BABY ONE MORE TIME.
Update: I've added a poll to this blog, over on the right, and if people are willing to vote please do.

Kitteh Update: Zoe video
Kitteh Update: Jayne video
Kitteh Update: Inara video
Update from the previous post: seems River was NOT adopted, she's back on the list :( I hope it wasn't a bad thing happening to her...
In the meantime, the SPCA has a video clip of some of the kittehs. Here's Inara:

Kitteh Update 4/15/14: It's Fun To Stay At the S...P C A
...what? the song just popped into mah head.
As you know, this Saturday I dropped off five of the kittehs - Inara, Jayne, River, Simon, and Zoe - at the Lakeland SPCA. It takes a couple days of observation and treatment before the kittens are put out in the adoption rooms for the hoomans to walk in and go awwwwww.
The website is listing all of the available kittehs, and today all five joined the list...
Except River disappeared off that list in a damn hurry.
Kinda knew River would go early. She's pretty, and active (she was the climber of the group, and the one most eager to hunt the dreaded danglely stringtoy).
To whomever adopted River from the Polk County area... I wish you luck, and I hope you're a good hooman for River to love. Let me know how's she doing.
